Washington
Township, originally occupied by the Lenape Indians, was settled
in the 1700's by German Protestants and became known as German
Valley. The area known as Schooley's Mountain was probably America's
earliest summer resort and spa because of the chalybeate water
mineral springs.
Today, the area is known for the German Valley Historic District
stone structures, excellent services, and it's proximity to New York
City. Recreation is still an important attribute with Township, County,
and State Recreation facilities, and native trout streams and rivers.

Fuel
To improve fuel economy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, go easy on the brakes
and gas pedal, avoid hard accelerations, reduce time spent idling and unload
unnecessary items in your trunk to reduce weight. If you have a removable
roof rack and you are not using it, take it off to improve your fuel economy
by as much as 5 percent. Use overdrive and cruise control on your car if
you have those features. Visit http://www.npsnj.org for
more info.
