The Washington Township Police and Office of Emergency Management use two systems to alert the community of urgent and important information: Reverse 911 and Nixle.
(1) The Reverse 911 System utilizes the official 911 database to send urgent emergency alerts to homes and businesses with Verizon and CenturyLink phone service (also referred to as landline phones).
In addition to sending spoken alerts to landline phones, the Reverse 911 System also provides for residents and businesses to receive the identical alert on their cell phones as well as through email and mobile text messages.
If you would like to receive alerts on your cell phone or mobile device, go to https://ww2.everbridge.net/citizen/EverbridgeGateway.action?body=home&gis_alias_id=1450761.
After creating an account, you will have the ability to select how you want to be contacted, as well as the order in which you would like the Reverse 911 System to notify you.
Important note: If you have already signed up for Reverse 911 alerts prior to December 1, 2012 you will need to re-register as the County has changed to a new system and your earlier registration was not able to be transferred over.
(2) Washington Township also utilizes the Nixle System to notify Township residents and businesses of important advisories and emergency-related information. This information is sent as short text messages or emails. Since Nixle is a separate system from Reverse 911, it requires a separate registration. If you would like to receive Nixle alerts, send a text message containing the Washington Township zip code – 07853 – to 888777. You can also register by going to https://local.nixle.com/register/.
If you have any problems signing up for either system, please email Bruce Clark at the Washington Township OEM at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
