The Township Tax Department is divided into two parts, the Tax Assessor's Office and The Tax Collector's Office.

Property Tax Payments (Where do I pay my Taxes?)
The Tax Collector's Office is located in the Washington Township Municipal Building, at 43 Schooley's Mountain Road, Long Valley. Tax payments can be made by mail, or you may make a payment in person during normal business hours, Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
For your convenience, there is a drop off box located at the front door of the Municipal Building. All payments deposited in the drop off box will be posted the following regular business day.

Property Tax Deadlines
First Quarter - February 1st
Second Quarter - May 1st
Third Quarter - August 1st
Fourth Quarter - November 1st
Tax bills are normally mailed once per year and are for four (4) quarters, i.e., 3rd and 4th quarters for the current year (Final tax bill) and 1st and 2nd quarters for the subsequent year (Preliminary tax bill). If a duplicate tax bill is necessary, there will be a $5.00 charge.
Tax sale proceedings can start when a property is delinquent after the 11th day of the 11th month of the year for which they were due, and may take place anytime thereafter.
A tax sale is held annually for unpaid property taxes.
Property Tax Grace Period
The Tax Collector's Office allows for a ten (10) day grace period for the payment of taxes. Any property tax payment received after the tenth calendar day is considered late, and interest will be charged back to the first date due. The payment date is the date received, NOT the postmarked date.
The delinquent interest rate is 8% on the first $1,500 and 18% on the remainder. If payment is made after the grace period, please contact the tax office for the correct amount of interest penalties due. A penalty of 6% will be charged on any delinquency in excess of $10,000 if not paid by the end of the fiscal year.
Property Tax Deductions
Eligible Veterans, Senior Citizens (individuals 65 years of age or older), and totally disabled individuals can received a $250 property tax deduction, if qualified. Individuals interested in obtaining this deduction are required to complete an application to determine eligibility. Applications are available at the tax office.
Senior Citizens (65 years of age or older), and totally disabled persons are entitled to the deduction of $250.00 from their property taxes if their income does not exceed $10,000.00 annually, excluding Social Security, and they meet certain qualifications.
REMINDER: If you are receiving a Senior Citizen or disabled individual property tax deduction, post annual tax statements will be mailed to you. The completed statements must be returned by March 1stor you will lose the deduction.
Property Tax Information
It is the property owners responsibility to maintain records regarding the payment of property taxes. Receipted tax bills or cancelled checks are proof of payment.
Tax bills will not be issued when property ownership is transferred. It is the responsibility of the property owner to be aware of tax payment amounts and due date. Individuals transferring property are requested to turn over tax information to the new owner at time of title transfer.
