The mission of the Parks and Recreation Committee and Department is to offer our residents diversified programs for leisure pursuits while providing safe and playable parks and athletic fields for passive and active recreation. A new Township Park on Coleman Road(click for directions) near East Mill Road is officially opened. The park is connected by the new Hemmings Trail to the Patriot's Path stub further north on Coleman Road.
The parkproperty was identified by the Township Open Space Committee and acquired from Fraser Porperties with funding form the Township's Open Space Trust Fund and a Morris County Open Space Grant.
The trail property, formerly part of the High Bridge Branch of the Central Railroad of New Jersey, was donated by John and Joan Hemmings.
The railbed was cleared and a kiosk built as part of TJ Mundy's Eagle Scout project with help from Troop 36 and equipment from Hoffman Supply.
Further improvements to the park and trail were done by Washington Township DPW.
