Department of Public Works

The Department of Public Works does not have a sanitation department. Residents must make arrangements for trash pick up with a private sanitation company.

The Please be advised that garbage and recycling containers, portable basketball hoops, and similar items must be kept off the roadways.

 * It is also illegal to place leaves, grass clippings, snow or ice in the street. *

The Department of Public Works does not provide residential or commercial water or sewer service. Water and sewer utilities are provided by the Washington Township Municipal Utilities Authority (MUA). The MUA can be contacted at 908-876-3145.

The DPW is divided into three divisions: Roads, Maintenance Garage and Buildings and Grounds. The road division's responsibilities include removal of ash and other dead trees from municipal right-of-ways, drainage repairs, filling potholes and other road maintenance. The garage maintains fire, first aid, police and other municipal vehicles. Buildings and Grounds is responsible for maintaining athletic fields and courts, mowing parks and other township (and WTMUA) facilities and maintaining the police station, townhall and other buildings. The Department is also responsible for winter road maintenance including the plowing of over 140 miles of municipal roadway.

Some road paving is done by DPW, the majority is done under a cooperative pricing contract through MCCPC or by contractors awarded bids. Please see links below for more info.
