Smart Summer Grilling - Healthy swaps for your next BBQ bash!

June is prime time for grilling—but traditional cookouts often come with heavy sides, processed meats, and sugary drinks. With a few smart swaps, you can keep the flavor and fun while boosting the nutrition.

Grill Smarter, Not Harder

Instead of: Hot dogs & processed sausages

Try: Lean turkey burgers, marinated chicken, veggie kebabs, or portobello mushrooms

Instead of: White buns & rolls

Try: Whole grain buns, lettuce wraps, or open-faced sandwiches

Instead of: Mayo-heavy potato or pasta salad

Try: Vinegar-based slaw, quinoa salad, or grilled veggie skewers

Side Dish Makeovers

Skip: Creamy dips loaded with fat

Swap in: Hummus, Greek yogurt dip, or guacamole

Skip: Chips and nacho cheese

Swap in: Air-popped popcorn, roasted chickpeas, or fruit skewers

Add: A DIY water bar with lemon, mint, berries, or cucumber instead of soda

Don’t Forget Food Safety!

Keep cold foods in a cooler with ice packs

Use a meat thermometer: chicken = 165°F, burgers = 160°F

Wash hands and surfaces often
