Please call the Municipal Registrar at 908.876.3315 x 1222 for additional information regarding Application for Marriage, Remarriage, Civil Union, Reaffirmation of Civil Union Licenses, Birth Certificates, and Civil Unions and Death Certificates.

An appointment must be made to apply for a Marriage, Remarriage, Civil Union, Reaffirmation of Civil Union License. Failure to make an appointment may result in delay. Please contact the Township Registrar at 908.876.3650 to schedule an appointment to complete the paperwork.

The first page of the license application can be viewed and printed before applying for a license at the Township Health Department. The application must be completed by the prospective spouses and witness in front of the Registrar or Deputy Registrar. A fee of $28 is due at time of application and payable by cash or check made out to the Washington Township Health Department.

Please submit this request and the appropriate fee for the number of certified copies required. The form must be printed and then completed. Identification is required to obtain copies. Where should you apply for a Marriage or Civil Union License?

The marriage or civil union license must be obtained from the registrar in the New Jersey municipality in which either applicant resides, if one or both is resident of New Jersey. (For these purposes, soldiers are residents of the posts at which they are stationed.) A license issued under the preceeding circumstances is good for use anywhere in the State of New Jersey. 

If both parties are not residents of New Jersey, the license must be obtained from the Registrar of the municipality where the ceremony is to be performed and is only good for use in that municipality. 

A New Jersey marriage or civil union license may never be used outside of the State of New Jersey and a license issued in another state may never be used within the State of New Jersey. 

Be sure to contact the Registrar well in advance of the ceremony to find out on what days and during what hours the Registrar will be in the office. The marriage or civil union license fee is $28.00.
