The Zoning Officer enforces the provisions of the Zoning Ordinance and is responsible for the examination of all applications for permits and the issuance of zoning permits for the commencement of a use, and the construction, reconstruction, alteration, conversion, installation of or addition to any structure or building, including accessory structures, pillars, gates and signs.

Vacant / Abandoned / Foreclosure Properties
The township requires registration of vacant, abandoned and nuisance properties. The vacant property registration annual fee is $250, and is the registration remains valid for one year. For more information on the registration requirements, please review Ordinance RO-06-22.
Initial renewal of registration for property with an outstanding property maintenance or code violation shall cost an additional $500. Subsequent renewals of registration for property with an outstanding property maintenance or code violation shall cost an additional $750.
Annual registration fee for properties in foreclosure are $500 or $2,500. An occupied property is $500 annual registration fee. A vacant/abandoned property is $2,500 annual registration fee. Annual registration fees are due no later than January 31st.

FAQ's
Washington Township requires a Zoning Permit for:
- New structures including those less than 200 square feet;
- Additions to existing structures;
- Finishing interior spaces including basements, attics, and garages;
- Fences greater than 6 feet tall, around a swimming pool, in a front yard, or less than 50% open, meaning that a chain link fence or a split rail fence does not require a permit but a privacy fence does;
- Signs;
- Increase in impervious cover;
- New businesses or non-residential tenants;
- Change to a site plan (site plans are required for all uses besides single- and two- family residential); or
- Any other start or change of use on a property or construction, reconstruction, alteration, or conversion of any structure, building, or part thereof (217-124 of the Washington Township Code).
